You know nothing about me, but because the rest of your comment/question is reasonably respectful–and, in fact, important–here is my response. I”m copying something I wrote from a longer post on this topic.
But maybe, just maybe, some of these young people want to die because 21st century society has given them the message that they cannot live their lives legitimately and happily in the bodies they were born in if they do not conform to gender stereotypes. That if they don’t like “girly” things or are “sissy boys,” or if they identify with and enjoy pursuits and body ornamentation traditionally associated with the opposite sex, they and their families must push for a medical diagnosis that will commit them to a chronic, expensive health condition involving lifelong drug treatment and repeated plastic surgeries; that they will have to live like Type 1 diabetics, requiring treatment for the rest of their lives. How can all of this pressure to conform not contribute to a sense of hopelessness and despair?
if you read alcorn’s comments its clear that they didn’t want to be a woman unless they could be a pretty one. Better dead than ugly I suppose? how depressing.
I really agree with most radfem ideologies but it’s shit like this that makes me want to vomit. How does Leelah wanting to change herself hurt you? how does it affect your life at all?

It isn’t picking on anyone to accurately discuss their comments. transgenderreality has many examples of teens like alcorn discussing how puberty “ruins” their bodies and makes them ugly. The alternative to transition is always suicide in these toxic online groups. I really resent the idea that the only reason to be a woman is to be a pretty one. We are so much more than that.
As for how it affects me- I got to raise children in this world. Martyring people who kill themselves has been shown to spawn copy cats. I am not okay with reverence for what Alcorn decided to do. They decided to traumatize another person w/their death. They stepped in front of a truck. Imagine driving that truck that someone else decided to step out in front of. Imagine people on tumblr literally tracking you down for harassment because you drove a truck that someone else decided to step in front of. Imagine your child killing themselves and then you can’t even have a funeral without a bunch of asshole strangers from the internet showing up to “correct” their gravestone. its so gross.
Leelah’s choice of suicide method was DEEPLY unethical and fucked up and selfish. It doesn’t make the kid look sympathetic, it makes him look like a narcissist throwing the ultimate temper tantrum because he couldn’t get what he wanted, so fuck all the innocent bystanders.

I refuse to feel sympathy for a spiteful, shallow, vindictive teenager who CHOSE to throw his life away for no good reason. Just read his suicide note; he did it to punish his parents for such crimes as taking away his internet privileges and not consenting to getting him hormones and plastic surgery at age fucking 16. His motivation was hating them, spurred on by the reactionary bile and the black-and-white/us-vs-them thinking crammed into his impressionable, hormonal teenage brain by the trans community at large. He demonized his parents to an absurd, unrealistic degree like teenagers tend to do because he knew the trans community is a violent one and would be all too happy to torture them on his behalf for years to come on top of the hell he already put them through.
It’s not a simplistic poor angelic trans girl vs. evil transphobic parents narrative, and trans activists need to take responsibility for making suicide seem like an option at all, much less an attractive one.
He was a victim of conservative religious parenting, absolutely… no one here is defending that conversion therapy bullshit. But he was also the victim of the psychotic, melodramatic, morbidly suicidal internet transgender community. He was also not above the mood swings, violent tendencies, feelings of entitlement, and lack of patience/long-term thinking skills that come with being an adolescent male. Nothing heroic here, just sad all around.
This reblog will undoubtedly net more hate mail for me and @no-lies-detected, but the Thought Police should really read and ponder the above before hitting their send button. Trans activists use the suicides of teenagers to muzzle anyone who questions the toxic cult that urges kids to threaten self harm if their parents don’t immediately acquiesce to drugs and the surgeon’s knife. Emotional blackmail is not condoned for any other teenage demand apart from medical “"transition,” and someone needs to be speaking out and pushing back about it. We are. And guess what? We know our own kids a lot better than you Internet strangers ever will.
